Abstract
This paper introduces a new parallel algorithm for the
low pass digital image filtering using a systolic array. This new
algorithm is faster than the old one [14]. This is due to the fact that
the old algorithm carries out the addition operations in a
sequential mode. But in our new design these addition operations
are divided into two groups which can be performed in parallel.
One group will be performed on one half of the systolic array and
the other on the second half, that is, by folding. This parallelism
reduces the time required for the whole process by almost quarter
the time of the old algorithm.
