Abstract

Aims: The study aims at investigating the educational leadership style and its relationship to job engagement in East Jerusalem high schools from schoolteachers’ perspective. Methodology: The study utilizes the descriptive analytical approach. Both educational leadership style questionnaire and job involvement questionnaire were validated and applied on a random sample of (224) schoolteachers in East Jerusalem. Results: The results shows that the level of the educational leadership style was moderate. The leisure style came first, followed by the autocratic style, whereas the democratic style came last. Also, the level of job engagement was moderate. The dedication dimension came in first, followed by vigor dimension and absorption dimension respectively. Moreover, the results show a positive relation between the democratic style and job engagement, and a negative relation between job engagement and both autocratic style and the leisure style. Recommendations: The study recommends promoting job engagement and democratic style of leadership by supporting an appropriate atmosphere for the teacher to offer his best.
