Abstract
The study aims to identify the evaluation level of academic
underperformance causes from the perspective of hindrance students at
Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU), and the relation between these
causes and other variables: sex, type of faculty and students’ academic
year.
To achieve this purpose, the analytical descriptive methodology
was used, and a questionnaire which consisted of three domains of
causes of academic underperformance was prepared. These domains
were: the educational (academic) domain, students personality and
social relationships, and family and economic status. For this reason a
sample of (133) male and female students was chosen by the intentional
method.
The study showed that the level of causes behind academic
underperformance of Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) students
according to total tool was moderate; likewise, students individual
assessments of these causes for each domain of the tool were moderate.
The domain concerning educational (academic) difficulties came in the
first rank, difficulties concerning students personality and social
relationships came second, and difficulties related to family and
economic status came in the third rank.
There were significant statistical differences of the sex variable, the significance was in favor of females; there were significant statistical
differences of the faculty variable (sciences/arts), the significance
was in favor of the students in scientific faculties’ and there were significant
statistical differences of the academic year variable, the significance
was in favor of first and second year students.
